IT STARTED ABOUT 5 MONTHS AGO, I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS BEFORE,. I HAD ALWAYS BEEN ACTIVE AND WALKED PROBABLY 5 MILES A DAY WHAN I WAS WORKING. RETIRED 2 YRS AGO AND HAVE NOT BEEN WALKING ANYWHERE NEAR AS MUCH. MY HUSBAND DIED 2 YEARS AGO AND I KIND OF STOPPED MOST ACTIVITIES. I CAN Walk, but must stop to recover atfter a few minutes and then continue, stop and start, stop and start. should i get on a schedile slowly to try to gey back to normal?

Most of the time, when an activity is stopped, the major problems which occur are deconditioning of muscles and loss of cardiopulmonary endurance. When you start activity again, the muscles are not completely stretched and tones as well as blood supply to these muscles is also affected so that they get fatigued more often. Start with gentle stretching as warm up, get on to the activity like walking, swimming or whatever you want to pursue and then a cool down period of short stretches. Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration. Pursue all activities for atleast 3-5 times a week to improve cardiopulmonary status too.
