What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing While Suffering From Tortuous Esophagus?

I have been diagnosed with a tortuous esophagus. My throat has spasms as well. I cannot swallow all the time. I have to think about it. Cut my food very small. I still choke. If drinking something alot of times it comes right back up. If I am going to the bathroom and push. Food and drink will come back up, especially cold water. I have had my throat widened. To help with swallowing. I feel my dr has given up. Nexium 40mg twice a day keeps it bearable. Where should I turn I was 12 when diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer.

Hello,

Difficulty in swallowing is due to break in the continuity of the normal peristalsis movement of the esophagus. In normal people, the peristalsis is 15 to 20 contractions. However, in your case there is difficulty in swallowing due to the dysregulation in the peristalsis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
