What Causes Difficulty In Getting Up While Suffering From Parkinson Disease?
Hi. My dad is 84 years old. He was diagnosed with Parkinson at the age of 77. He also has orthostatic hypotension along with episodes or what the doctor calls seizures. He is on carbidopa levo er 50-200 tablet,Detrol la 4mg,oxcarbazepine 300 mg tablet, midodrine hcl 5mg. Lately in the mornings he has a difficult time getting up. He looks like he is so drugged and physically cannot get up. He can barely take his meds. When we try to sit him up he literally just falls back and goes back to sleep. Today my mom finally got him awake at 12:00. Is this part of his PD or maybe the combination of his meds?? We are very worried about him.
Hello and thank you for your question. Patients with Parkinson's disease can have some muscle rigidity that can cause problems with getting up and with walking. However, what you describe sounds more like he is having a side effect from his medications making him overly sedated. Please take him to his doctor as soon as possible for an exam and medication review. Thanks for using HCM.
