What Causes Difficulty In Eating After A Facial Injury?

Hi. I am having trouble eating and biting, after a fall where I hit the side of my face. A CAT scan ruled out any cuncussion, but I think my TMJ was jarred. I am hoping for some help with exercises I could do at home... it does seem to be improving slightly (it has been 4 weeks now, since my injury). Thanks in advance... Carol

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, your explanation is pointing toward trauma to the jaw joint that seems to be dislocated due to injury. It can disturb the alignment of teeth that must be causing problems in biting and chewing.

You should consult an oral physician and get evaluated and a panoramic x-ray should be done to evaluate the jaw joint along with a physical examination. If there is dislocated jaw then it can be manually reduced. Once it is repositioned in the appropriate position your symptoms will get better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
