What Causes Diarrhea With Bleeding?

I am 76 years old and had a recent bout of diarrhea with bright red blood. It continued for severala hours and finally I was just bleeding without passing stool. It is a Sunday here, is this serious enough to go to the ER. I have been passsing blood about e3vaery 30 minutes for 3 to 4 hours.

Noted the history of a 76 years old person with diarrhea with bright red blood. Which ultimately ended with bleeding only, wants to know whether this is serious to go to ER as it is Sunday today. You are passing blood every 30 minutes for 3 to 4 hours.
Yes, this is going to be a serious matter for the following reasons:
You are passing only blood now per rectum, has not stopped hence you are loosing a lot of blood and hence you may need emergency care, investigations and may be urgent intervention to stop the source of bleeding.
If the blood loss is more, you also may need blood transfusion.
Please rush to ER and stop taking anything orally.
