What Causes Diarrhea In Infant?

Hi doctor, My son is 4 months old and is passing watery stool and semi watery stool from past 5 days.my pedetrician has examined him and said the hydration is fair and there is no need for any medication.he is exclusively on brestfeed. Please advice what should i do??

It is good that your child is on exclusively breast feeding. Diarrhea in these babies is less common due to less chances of food and water born infection but still some viral infection may cause diarrhea most common is rota virus. It seems your child is not severely affected because he not having dehydration.
diarrhea in these children does not require any medicine other then correction and prevention of dehydration with ORS.
You may use probiotics and zinc supplements to reduce the duration of disease.
