What Causes Diarrhea And White Stringy Substance In Stool?
I have been experiencing severe diareah for over a week. I can t eat and have lost 4 lbs. Prior to that I was concerned that my stools looked like they had white stringy substance in them. Also clear grape shaped mucus. I was worried about parasites since one of my students had worms. Stool tests found red and white blood cells in my stool. Waiting for rest of stool tests next week. What could be possible causes?

The most common cause of acute diarrhea is infection which can be viral, bacterial or parasitic.
Viral is more common.
The stool test would determine if parasites are present.
If found then there are anti parasitic medications that can be used to help treat the infection.
