Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 12 month old girl vomited once this morning at 5 am. she had a diareha at about 8 am that was light colored and kind of stringy and mucosy. She had a second diareha immediatly after I changed her that was all liquid. she has no fever yet but I can tell she is run down and tired. She also bumped the back of her head yesterday pretty badly but was acting normal for about 4 hours after before we went to bed for the night. Please help answer what is wrong, I am hopeing it is just a virus but I dont want to dismiss it if it is a bigger problem from bumping her head
An infection with a virus, bacteria, or parasite can be the likely cause it.Diarrhea makes the body lose too much water and minerals called electrolytes. That leads to dehydration.Small babies can get dehydrated very quickly.Take him to a pediatrician.Doctor will check dehydration if required fluids through an IV in their veins.Antibiotics could also be given depeding on the nature of infection. However mostly its viral. You should take the baby to emergency to be on saferside.
