What Causes Diarrhea And Pin Pointed Pain In Abdomen?

I ate a precooked meal of shrimp, scallops and stuffed tilapia the week of 11/28/09. Had a week of diarhea and 6 weeks of distinct pinpointed pain at the top of my stomach every time I would eat anything. Doctor said it couldn t be a parasite because that doesn t happen in America (She was Indian). Though the consistent pain went away, it was replaced with shifting and loud gurgling as soon as I eat (fast forward to now). In July 2010, I began to feel like a small object was moving in my toes. This multiplied to many extremities having this feeling, including the skin in my nose and nostrils - mostly at night. It scared me and kept me from sleeping. I had a physical done by my doctor but it was very peripheral and and I had to actually ask her to do blood work and stool sample, so I continued to be awakened by these awful movement feelings in my skin, but hoping it was just a nerve problem . By September, I began to get very dry dimpled and striated skin or what looked like stretch marks all over my abdomen and thighs - also varicose veins. I am brown skinned and in addition to the dimpling there is now a mottling two toned coloring on my thighs. I ve lost 13 pounds since September. The big toes are now wrinkly and the skin on my feet yellow in spots & bright red in others. In September I started drinking lots of water because of the dryness and would get up in the middle of the night for bathroom runs when I saw these worm shapes, looked like weals & welts, little round nodes and lots of inflamed redness WHICH MOVED under my skin. (Shapes like weals and welts and nodes...) I also saw several see through tubes with like a long dark blackish string in the center of them in my stools. The doctor had given me one low dose of paraquantel the week before, then said she couldn t help me further and to see an infectious disease doctor. I am in torture most nights (some worse than others) as these things kind of disappear in the day and come to the surface and move up my body (to my neck and head) at night. When I shower, they trail down my body in the morning. I feel them in my toes all day but rarely see more than a little red blotch or squiggle during the day usually on my arm or hand. A colleague saw one in my cheek one day. The biggest ones are about 1/2 wide and 4 to 5 inches long, and appear flat. These I ve only seen at night or early morning. I finally connected the skin movement and itching and weals and welts with what I ate almost a year ago and the weird digestive stuff I continue to experience. I think that that s where it all started. The problem is that all lab samples are negative (eosinophils raised though and on the low scale for some kidney and liver readings). What can I do to get a doctor to believe me and honor my request for a high resolution scan or sonogram of some kind? (I ve seen 5 physicians, two being infectious disease specialists (randomly chosen from my insurance list by me, as my doctor didn t help), and the next one I ll be seeing is a gastrointerologist in the Princeton area. I am an elementary school teacher, and the lack of sleep, general extreme fatigue and brain fog is beginning to take a toll (not to mention trying to take off from work early for lab and doctor visits, and having poor public government employee insurance draining me of whatever savings I ve had. I m also not too happy about the havoc being wreaked in my skin.) My sense of smell, taste and sometimes my hearing, are on the fritz from day to day. (They come and go). When getting my eye exam for new glasses, the first prescription didn t work out and I had to be retested because when they made the glasses the prescription was totally off. I remembered that my eyelids were swollen that day and think the things in my skin effected my vision. I m often congested in my sinuses, yet all bodily fluids that I used to have have disappeared. (Example bleeding gum chronically, sniffles from slight dairy allergy and candida, not even sniffles when I eat the chipotle and brut jalopia hot pepper that I love). I m in the NY, NJ area. If you could give me any help, referrals to an informed, open minded doctor, or advice on what to say to the doctors to get them to actually follow through on all possibilities or sleuth out the cause I d be grateful. I had a happy life doing a job I love (teaching inner city youth) and singing and working with children at a local synagogue and church on weekends. I d just like to get back to life as usual and be able to give them my usual 150%. (I m the type that lived off of stressful challenges, but maybe not such a healthy way to be so driven, as the body has to keep up).

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, above-mentioned symptoms with pinpoint abdomen discomfort suggest possible inflammation of stomach duodenum or intestine as diverticula or so forth.

A detailed study of upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy with or without CT scan of the abdomen & pelvis are further steps to proceed ahead.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
General Surgeon
