What Causes Delayed Periods?

Hi. I am 18 and had unprotected sex for the first time last april 6. He did not finished inside of me for we only did it in a span of less than 3 minutes. He came outside of me, away and far from where my vagina is. I should have my period now for i had it on the 18-23ish of march last month. But it still hasn t come. i am NOT experiencing: Nausea, headaches, strong aversion to some odor, spotting. Nipples are sore and mild cramping (I usually experience this right before my period is about to come or when i am having it). My friend told me that having sex for the first time delays the period and that worrying and stressing about it adds up to the delay and yes, i am dead worried and stressed about it. Could it be contributing to the delay?

Hi,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. Your friend is right. Stress can alter the menstrual cycle. This is because it influences the hormone milieu of the body. If you are always regular with your cycles and had the intercourse during your safe period, you need not worry about conception. Please note that ovulation occurs two weeks prior to the onset of the next cycle and this is the fertile period. An intercourse around ovulation can cause pregnancy. Your symptoms may be premenstrual as well. You can get an assessment of the serum beta-hCG titres to confirm/exclude pregnancy and follow it up with a trans-vaginal sonogram to plan further management. Hope this helps.
