What Causes Delayed Periods With Faint Line On Pregnancy Test Strip?

I had a overy removed over 4 months ago. Since the surgery I have had a normal period. Every 20-25 days between cycles. My boyfriend and I only are intimate once a month. It has officially been 43 days since my last period. Ever since it reached my 30 days since last one I have taken 4 tests and only one of them showed a very light very light plus sign. So today was the 4th test and it said no. I don t know what to think. With one very light with a plus I m confused. I am almost 38 . What do you think?

Hallow Dear,

Faint positive (weak) result of pregnancy test is found if the test is done too early (within few days of missed period). However, even after 40 days of LMP if the test is weak positive, it should to taken cognisance of.

Such persistent weak positive test is noticed in ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy is a condition wherein the pregnancy is implanted somewhere outside the uterine cavity; most common site being tubes. Such pregnancy does not grow and always carries a risk of rupture. After rupture it causes severe bleeding and pain in abdomen. It is a haemorrhagic emergency requiring emergency surgical intervention with many units of blood transfusion. However, if diagnosed before rupture, it can be conservatively managed by Methotrexate like medicines.

Your so many tests have reported weak positive result; hence I would advise you ignore the last negative report. It may be indicating non-viable baby now.

Please get ultrasonography done. If the uterine cavity shows products of conception the pregnancy is within the uterus. Look for the cardiac activity. If it is present, the pregnancy is normal, if it is absent, the baby is not living and needs evacuation of the uterine cavity. However, if the uterine cavity is empty, it suggests ectopic pregnancy and further investigations are needed. Unruptured ectopic pregnancy can be treated conservatively.

Please report to your Gynaecologist ASAP, before rupture of ectopic pregnancy.

I hope you got the message.
