What Causes Delayed Milestones In A Child?

my grandson is almost a year old. he is getting phyiscal therpary to teach him how to crawl.he also flaps his hands alot. But on the whole he is a happy baby he interacts with you. babbles and says da,mama. nana. but does hold his bottle very long. Drs want him to see neuro logists.Any ideas whats going on or what kind of tests they would do.

as per history child can have delayed milestone from many causes like most common is any trouble at the time of delivery of baby or before birth that means prenatal and perinatal causes ( like hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy,torch infection,RH incompatibility maternal alcohol consumption) , can be due to metabolic disorders causing derangements in body substances normally required for normal development of baby like phenylketonuria, some genetic syndrome also can cause like Down's syndrome, fragile X syndrome, some endocrine dysfunction like hypothyroidism can cause. sometimes defect in brain development can lead to this type of symptoms.
so neurologist will asses all aspect of development of child and asses how much delay is present and will try to find out cause of delay.
