What Causes Delay Of Periods?

hello Doctor. I am a 23 year old girl. i had sex with my boy friend before 2 months. after that i take a pill. after 1 week i had periods but now from about 40-45 day i dont have periods. i am worried.how it possible that after having periods after sex...please help me

Hello and welcome,

Please do not worry. This is a very common problem after I pill. If you had a period one week after the Ipill then pregnancy is most likely not there.

However for every woman with absent periods we do a pregnancy test to rule it out. So please get it done.
If it is negative then there is no need to worry. The I pill is delaying the period. It will come after a few days or may even take a few weeks.

If it is delayed for more than a month then get evaluated for other causes like hormonal issues, ovarian cysts etc. Stress and heavy exercise also delay peirods so see if these are there and control them.

Do not worry the periods, most likely, will come after a few days.
