What causes delay in periods with symptoms of periods?

Hi. I am 42 years old and been having regular 28 days cycle period all my life. I missed my last period that was due 2 weeks ago. I have had stomach cramps (like when you have before your periods). nausea all day, tiredness etc. Had blood and urine test for pregnancy but both negative. Symptoms continue but still haven t got my period. Am getting really worried now. Please help.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. In the current scenario, I would ask you to get a trans-vaginal sonogram to know the status of the pelvic organs and also if there is a pregnancy, locate the gestation sac and note the age of the pregnancy. Later on, if pregnancy is excluded, I would also ask you get a complete hormone profile, especially the FSH, thyroid profile and serum Prolactin. You could be in the perimenopause considering your age, and this may have resulted in the symptoms. Once confirmed, a period can be induced with hormone medication. Hope this helps.
