What Causes Delay In Conception?

hello doctor, I got married in Oct 2013, we have used safe period method for not to get pregnant, now we are planning for a baby and trying from May 2015, but I m not missing my periods, is it take time, can I wait for some more time or should I consult a doctor?

Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
You must understand that it takes about a year on an average to conceive when being sexually active. Hence, you can relax and keep trying for another 6 months. If your periods are regular, then the chances of conceiving are more likely.
Delay in conception due to female factors could be due to following reasons:
1. Untimely ovulation.
2. Blockage of Fallopian tubes.
3. Irregular menstrual cycles.
4. Presence of fibroids or polyps in the uterine cavity.
5. Lack of endometrial preparation due to hormone imbalance.
Male factors contributing to delay include:
1. Sperm count.
2. Sperm motility and morphology.
In case there is delay even after trying sincerely after 6 months, then you can get investigations done to look for what could be the cause.
