What Causes Degenerative Disease?

I was recently in a car accident where x-rays were done and the physical therapist informed me that one of the x-rays showed I had scoliosis which he said is degenerative disease from childhood. I have never ever been told that I had anything wrong with me in all the years I've been to a doctor as a child and even when I went to the military at 22 years old. Can this have been caused by my car accident. I haven't had a chance yet to talk to the referring doctor yet who is an osteopathic physician

Welcome to health care magic.

1.Degenerative changes are not the changes which are seen after any accident or trauma.
2.Degenerative changes are seen as a long standing chronic cause, generally seen as the age grows, these changes are seen more in hard working with weight bearing people.
3.At the age of 22 these changes are not seen, generally seen as early as 40 plus, in hard jobs it can be seen early.
4.There is no active treatment in this case, generally x-ray is suggested followed by physiotherapy - finally if no relief operation / intervention is suggested.
5.To see if there is any disc involvement or pressure effect on the spinal chord - an MRI is best to evaluate the condition.

Good luck.
