What Causes Cramps In Thighs And Ankles With Extreme Fatigue When Diabetic?
I am diabetic and y blood sugar has been real high over the past few days. When I say real high I mean over 500. I drank a lot of water and urinated very frequently. I finally got it to start coming down however that night I had horrible cramps in my thighs and in my ankles. I had this 1 other time and it took a few days to get over it. It seems to help if I drink some Gatorade and then I seem fine. The next day I had extreme tiredness even though I had gotten my sugar down to 140. I didn t really want to eat and I drank very little water only to take my pills because I was just too tired to get out of bed. I have not ever had this reaction. I am feeling ok today. I am getting a little tired but that is really normal. Yesterday I could not stay awake.
The Cramps in the muscles might occur due to lot of reasons in diabetes like 1. Diabetic neuropathy 2. claudication pain due to arterial narrowing 3. Loss of electrolytes or some times due to increased levels of potassium which is due to drugs
But most commonly in diabetes it will occur due to hyperglycemia. but I strongly recommend you to get ankle brachial index testing done.
Thanks
