What Causes Cramps In Abdomen, Burning Urination And Pain In Hip?

I ve been experiencing pain for almost three weeks. It started with what I thought was an ovarian cyst. I ve had them before, and it felt the same. An ultrasound ruled this out. As that pain dissipated, I had achey cramping across my lower abdomen and a fluey feeling, which dropped lower and lower, until it became a slight burning when I urinated. The left ovary area pain went away, but similar pain intensified over my front, left hip. I went to my general practitioner. She had a urine sample done, which showed a small amount of blood, but nothing else. A full cbc showed only a slight deficiency in vitamin D. The pain at my hip bone continues and sometimes shifts to my back, feeling achey just over my back hip bone. Sometimes, the pain is sharp and sudden, but that is brief, and resumes to aching. I am 46 years old, no signs of menopause yet. I run and strength train. Prolonged sitting makes the pain worse. I don t know where to go next. The pain is manageable, but not knowing what is wrong is stressful. Thank you for your help.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Presence of blood in urine indicates presence of urinary tract infection. All the flu-like symptoms you must be experiencing may be due to presence of infection in the urinary tract. Feeling this pain in hip and back area is also very common finding.

I would advise you that you should do an antibiotic course. If you are not allergic to fluoroquinolones, I would advise you to take Levofloxacin 250 mg (Levoflox) twice a day for five days. Drink lots of fluids to eliminate the infection faster in urine and take rest. You can take Acetaminophen 500 mg thrice a day to find relief in fever-like symptoms and pain while infection is cured.

All the flu-like symptoms and back & hip pain should disappear with the elimination of infection with antibiotics and fluids.

If you do not find relief after completing 5 days' course, you should go for urine culture analysis.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
