What Causes Coughing Up Of Green Mucus After A Double By-pass Surgery?
My Mom just had double by-pass surgery. She is recovering slowly in ICU. She is coughing and spitting up some green substance and I am being told this is not fluid but has gotten trapped in her lungs. What is it and how long approx will it take to get this out of her system.

I really appreciate your concern, what the sputum your mother is having could be purulent (Contained dead WBC) in other word it is the pus contained sputum, it may be due to infection and may not be related with cardiac disease but it may be infection due to the surgical procedure she had gone, butter to send the pus for laboratory testing hope this information helps.
