What Causes Coughing And Sore Throat After Propofol Sedation?
I had a screening colonoscopy yesterday, and all results are clear. I was sedated with propofol (sp?) and woke up coughing quite a bit. Coughing was nonproductive, although last night I coughed up a very small amount of blood. I have a sore throat, running nose, and almost no voice. Is this a normal reaction to the procedure?
hello.. were you intubated during the procedure? if that is the case you will have all the above said symptoms you can have side effects like cough post procedure due to propofol in some cases gastric acids come up in the gut and cause similar symptoms.. in simple words you can have the above said side effects post anesthesia.. do not worry.. take the prescribed medicaton, problem resolves completely.. if problem persists consult your doctor..
hope my answer helps you if you have any more queries i would be happy to answer..
