Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The antibiotic is given to your child to prevent bacterial infection because he had a surgery and his natural defense at the airways is somehow not so good for the moment. You may apply saline water at his nose as well. You may give him the medication and be sure everything is going to be alright.

All the best.
