What Causes Cough And Tightness In The Throat, Which Last For Weeks?

Hi Dr.!I ve had cold like symptoms off and on over the past few weeks. It started as a gastro issue and a doctor gave me omeprazole and simethicone. Then I got a cold and had stuffy and runny nose, cough etc. Then it went away and came back and I ve had an ache in the back and chest and a small persistent dry cough. I ve recently traveled abroad for work to both cuba and peru. The pain in the back and chest went away but now the cough is still there and now I have a little tightness in the throat. Could this just be a persistent virus? Thanks for your time. Paul

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The symptoms are persistent with a viral infection and occasionally fungal infection of lungs particularly after certain area visits where they are predominant.

A throat swab test and lab tests, x-ray of the chest are best required to proceed further in this instance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
