What Causes Cough And Runny Nose In A Child?
i took my 5 month baby to doctors 2 days ago as he had a cough and runny nose and was very distressed, the doctor said it was a viral infection, that was 2 days ago since then he seems to have got worse, he is now very distressed and keeps holding his head as if he is in pain. My husband has been diagnosed with swine flu! I am very concerned

Look first of all please do not get panic. Runny Nose with cough in 5 months old kid: you need to monitor following things:
1. Temperature: if Fever is there or not ? 4 hourly Temperature charting to be done.
2. Observe if the baby is feeding well or not?
3. Continue with exclusive breastfeeding only. No, any top feed.
If Fever comes n there is difficulty in breathing & feeding then you need to pay more attention as these might be alarming danger signs. Might need hospitalization.
Swine-flu is a Viral infection (spreads by droplet) which is potentially hazardous if not taken care of properly!
Close contacts of a patient specially infants-kids & Geriatric Age group people, pregnant women are at a high risk to get infected!
Therefore proper hygiene, hand washing practice, maintaining distance from the patients are the same essential acts.
