What Causes Continuous Spotting For A Week?

I'm 19 years old, sexually active but on the pill. My period was a week late, took a htp, negative. but now i have had bleeding, a light period, bit more than spotting for over 2 weeks now. some days it seems like its gone, but comes back hours later. Really confused.

Thank you for your query.

Taking hormonal birth control can cause irregularities in the menstrual cycle.

I recommend :
-stop the pill for a month. Use another mode of contraception like Condoms.
-wait for your period to occur normally. Then restart on the pill. Take a pregnancy test before you go on the pill.
-if this recurs then this mode of contraception is not suitable and you may have to consider another possibility like an intrauterine device.
Please consult your OBGYN to discuss the best options.
-if the bleeding is heavy and prolonged, please see your OBGYN right away.
An ultrasound abdomen and blood test to check for hormonal imbalances may be required.
