What Causes Continuous Heavy Bleeding?

Hi.. I had my last periods on March 31. I had sex with my hubby in the mid of April and I din get my periods till May. I did my pregnancy test, and it was positive. I took Unwanted Kit - Mankind on June 1, 2 and 3. But I took all 5 tablets Orally. I started to bleed on June 3rd early in the mrng. I bled heavily for 10 full days. The baby was aborted. After 10 days, the blood flow reduced, but did not stop. It is July 20 now (almost 47 days) and I m still bleeding, but not heavily. Is it normal? Or...?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern
Continuous bleeding 47 days after bleeding is not normal. Normally period will stops with in 4-5 days after taking unwanted kit. But keep in mind, abortion pill should be taken always under the observation of gynecologist after confirming intrauterine pregnancy by USG scan.
Following are the causes of continuous continuous bleeding after Abortion pills:
1. Incomplete abortion/retain product of abortion: Some time abortion fails to abort the whole pregnancy and some product will remain inside the uterus and bleeds continuous. It should be diagnosed by USG scan and by vaginal examination. Treatment is extra does of misoprostol but best is to remove by D & C.
2. Vaginal/pelvic infections: Incomplete abortion increase the risk of infection and there may be chance of bleeding. Should be diagnosed by vaginal swab test and urine testing. Should be treated by antibiotic.
3. Ectopic pregnancy: Unwanted pill will not abort the ecetopic pregnanyc and it bleed continuously. Should be diagnosed by USG can and treatmment is surgery.
So consult the gynecologist as early as possible and take the treatment according to above causes.
Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
