What Causes Constipation?

I am 67 years old.all test including colonoscopic,endoscopic,gave a normal report but suffering from constipation. (I was taking calcium suppliment for 2 months for -2.5 BDm. I stopped now as constipation is the side effect).Now Our doctor prescribed ganaton 50mg ,3times daily.Improved the health. My query is how many days I should take ganaton 50mg . what type of calcium supplement to use and time R.Rao

Your concern and query is appreciated, it may not be the constipation due to any disease but it seems to be due to less amount of water intake and less amount of fiber diet.
If you are not lack in calcium then it is not necessary to have calcium supplement, you can have the diet that is rich in calcium instead of taking oral calcium supplement in form of medicine.
Itopride (Ganaton) can only be given when it is the motility disorder found and confirmed, once the condition is cured medicine can be stopped.
