What Causes Constipation And Dark Stools?

My daughter was constipated The first week in Jan. Her father said it was resolved. A week or so later my daughter developed severe diarrhea this lasted for 8 days. When I got my daughter for visitation I took her to the doctor Monday and she was diagnosed with severe constipation.. She passed a large amount of dark dry stool two days ago but since then her stool is yellow in color and full of mucus. I am already waiting her doctors call but I am nervous and do not want to wait for an answer. She is taking fiber pills three times a day and on a high fiber diet now. Is this ok for is there something wrong?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Bleeding in the upper portion of the digestive system can cause black, tarry stools. I suggest you to do an endoscopy to discover the source of the bleeding. Meanwhile some advice are:
-drink liquids
-eat fiber rich diet
-use laxatives if necessary

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
