What Causes Constipation After Taking Bisoprolol?

I was on Bisoprolol for runs of SVT, 2.5 mg/day for 9 months. I became constipated and very tired! The doc/cardiologist said to stop the Bisoprolol on June 6th and to call him when I started feeling palpations. I called the doc/cardiologist today. He is going to start me on low dose. Toprol. I don t know the dose he will start me on. The side effects sound terrible. One of the side effects is fatigue. I told the cardiologist I didn t want to take anything that was going to make me feel tired. What do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Toprol is a reasonable choice for preventing SVT and would be considered a first-line medication for this condition. However, if you are concerned about fatigue, another choice you could discuss with your doctor about is a calcium-channel blocker medication such as diltiazem, which can also control the heart rate but perhaps does not have as much fatigue as Toprol or other beta-blocker medications (such as Bisoprolol).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
