Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Constant Throbbing Pain In Shoulder And Arm?
I have been having a constant throbbing pain in my left shoulder and upper arm for at least 5 months. It almost feels like a toothache in my arm and shoulder. Should I be concerned? I feel it mostly when I am relaxed on my recliner or when I lay on my bed. I do take sleeve or ibuprofen when it gets too uncomfortable. What should I do. I am 51 years old and I haven t had a medical doctor since grade school believe or not. I do work on making a lot of earrings at night and I do lift tables and a tent into my truck s bed so I don t know if I pulled a muscle or my posture is not straight enough when I work on making earrings for hours at a time. Need help please.
Since it is there for 5 months, definitely we need to evaluate for any underlying cause. Such pain can happen either from some disruption of blood supply to arm(thoracic outlet syndrome) or from nerve compression at cervical vertebra. Kindly see a physician for initial evaluation. He will suggest workup/remedy or will guide you to proper speciality after initial assessment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
