Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my dear relative is a female 14 yrs old with constant nausea and stomach pain.. pregnancy ruled out. she was admitted to hospital, tests run. Told to stay away from dairy. fried foods, and sugar. Was told by GI doctor she might have Crohn s disease, but not sure but to take medication anyway. Do you agree with that?
I read your message carefully and i understand your concern.
As I was going through your medical history, I noted the following information:
- 14 years old female - constant nausea and stomach pain - told to stay away from dairy, fried foods and sugar (suspect: Crohn's disease)
Nausea and abdominal pain are usual symptoms in Crohn's disease. This disease is likely to develop in young age (your relative is 14) and this is another reason, why doctor suspected Crohn. In this disease, diet is very important you must follow it all your life.
Blood tests for anaemia/infection and of course the faecal blood occult test must be done. If you have done them and they came with positive results then maybe it's Crohn. Also, colonoscopy and CT can give information for the intestine mucosa affection. Altogether they will help determine if she has Crohn's or not. We cannot give diagnosis without confirmatory tests.

Other diagnosis should be also ruled out like viral gastroenteritis, food poisoning and food allergy. Hope this was helpful. Dr.Albana
