What Causes Constant Heart Palpitations?

I m a 42 year old health female. For the past 5 days I ve experienced heart palpitations. It was a sudden onset and has not gone away. My heart seems to beat very hard hard and a bit fast. I ve tried to keep track of when it occurs but it is at different times. When I m at my desk typing, laying down to sleep, driving in the car. No stress induced or caffeine. I ve also experience fatigue and some hair shedding but the palpitations worry me. I have no medical conditions other than high cholesterol and the only medication I take is biotene and a multivitamin. Are there other indicators I should look for before calling my doctor? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. The medical history given mentions cardiac symptoms along with high cholesterol levels is suggestive of a cardiovascular disease.
Hair fall and palpitation can be experienced in anemic patients that is, when blood in body is unable to supply enough blood to pump forcing the heart to pump extensively in order to meet the supply demands.
Apart from the mentioned symptoms other relevant things to be mentioned on consultation is intake of any weight loss drug or supplement, menstrual history, breathlessness, pain in chest or back and any recent lifestyle changes.
Hope your concern is answered. Thank you.
