Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have suffered from cold sores for years. I am 73yrs old this month. Right now I have some very active cold sores in both nostrils & my index finger is itching as if I might get it there too. There are a couple of spots around my mouth that are suspicious too. Can I take acyclovir now? It was prescribed to me in 2014 but the MD put it for only 3 times a day & was not effective. Yrs. ago I was prescribed it 5 Xs a day for 10 days & it worked very well. I have some but it says discard after June 2016!
Hello, my name is Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern. I suggest you to take acyclovir 200 my 4 times a day for 10 days. You should not use the ones you have that are expired but buy new medicine in pharmacy. Hope that my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help. Kind regards!
