What Causes Cold Sores And Swelling In Upper Lip After Meth And Opiate Intake?

I have been using meth and opiates for about 3 weeks interveniously. 2 nights ago I scratched my upper lip, and it was kind of sore as if I was getting a cold sore. A couple hours later I noticed that there was not one but three soars forming on my lip. They appeared to be cold sores but they started swelling. I immediately went to the store and got a Abreva, and started taking Lysine. When I woke up this morning my lip was very swollen. Throughout the day the swelling has gone down slightly. Should I go to the doctor to get antibiotics? Or do you think this will go away on its own?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have cold sores and swelling in upper lip . Well there cn be many reasons for lip swelling but in your case it seems to me that swelling on lips is due to allergic reaction because of taking meth and opiate . I would suggest you to quit meth and opiate immediately , take anti histamine like benadryl and apply cold compresses to affected area to relieve swelling and itchiness . Do not pick or rub your lips at all . If condition doesn't get well the consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may give adrenal shot and may prescribe antibiotics .
