General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus.
It is best to begin using acyclovir ointment as soon as possible after you experience the first symptoms of infection
I also suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
