Hello,
1. as you are a known diabetic thus people with diabetes do have low immunity and thus more susceptible to infections [cold,
sinus infection, flu] as a result when they catch a cold it makes hard for the body to use insulin properly thereby raising blood sugar level [which happened in your case].
PS. As unable to take a direct history and physical examination to conclude from which diabetes you are suffering from [type I or II] thus remember that if blood sugar level gets hard to manage in
type 1 diabetes it can lead to the complication like
ketoacidosis, thus check with your PCP or a Medical specialist or visit an ER.
2. As in your history, you have told that you do keep the heater on and window open thus this temperature changes could be an aggravating factor for your problem.
3. apart from that: most fevers in general practice are viral, self-limiting and require symptomatic treatment but one should compulsory look for pallor,
jaundice, neck
stiffness, abdomen for liver and spleen and auscultate the chest.
4. If the fever does not reduce with antibiotic treatment, ask for Hb%, WBC, ESR,
Widal test, blood smear for malaria or lastly go for
blood culture.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
