What Causes Cold And Cough Along With Fever?

ja, a Week ago i came down with a slight Headcold with a mild Fever, the first Night i sweated out the Fever and as the Week progressed, the better i became. Now a Week later all i have is a slight cough. I live in Detroit Michigan, so the NIghts are still cool and always turn the Heater way down low and open my Bedroom Window when i sleep. I always wear a white Dressshirt under my cotton PJs for all of the cold Season and last Night i did too. The only difference is i forgot to take my Necktie off before dressing for Bed, so i slept with my Necktie all the way up to my Throat. Now, i am Diabetic so almost on the Hour i am up to urinate, and the Night when fine, i think i may have even stretched the first 2 Hours in Bed without getting up to urinate. now round about 5 i woke and my upperbody was soaked, but T-shirt, was wet all the way around from the Neck down to the end of the Rib Cavitiy. I found this very odd, so after i urinated i took my Bloodsugar, it was 140, then i took my Tempature and it was normal at 97.6 (that is normal for me). Now this was the first time i sweated all Week since the orginial NIght of the cold a Week before. I am thinking it was the Necktie and all the clothing and the Heavy Blanket i had and perhaps the Dream i was having. What do you think?

Hello,

1. as you are a known diabetic thus people with diabetes do have low immunity and thus more susceptible to infections [cold, sinus infection, flu] as a result when they catch a cold it makes hard for the body to use insulin properly thereby raising blood sugar level [which happened in your case].

PS. As unable to take a direct history and physical examination to conclude from which diabetes you are suffering from [type I or II] thus remember that if blood sugar level gets hard to manage in type 1 diabetes it can lead to the complication like ketoacidosis, thus check with your PCP or a Medical specialist or visit an ER.

2. As in your history, you have told that you do keep the heater on and window open thus this temperature changes could be an aggravating factor for your problem.

3. apart from that: most fevers in general practice are viral, self-limiting and require symptomatic treatment but one should compulsory look for pallor, jaundice, neck stiffness, abdomen for liver and spleen and auscultate the chest.

4. If the fever does not reduce with antibiotic treatment, ask for Hb%, WBC, ESR, Widal test, blood smear for malaria or lastly go for blood culture.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
