What Causes Cold And Cough Along With Fever?

I have a what I believe is a cold runny nose and a cough however in just a 24 hour period I now feel pins and needles when I cough and it hurts the back of my head to cough as well. Slight fever off and on 99 while taking over the counter cold meds. Is this something I can wait out (it has been three days now) or should I see my doctor

Hello,

I read your message and understood your medical issue.

It looks like a common cold which can be resolved by itself within a week. Anyway, if the symptoms persist and/or become more severe in the next two days then please consult with your doctor.

Try saline sprays to keep your nostrils clean from the mucus.

Keeping your nose blocked may contribute to discomfort and may raise the pressure in the sinuses causing headache and sometimes earaches.

Fever may increase the intracranial pressure which is more evident when you cough and causes pain in the back of your head.

Try to maintain a good nutrition, stay hydrated and use OTC drugs for the cold. Take plenty of rest. If acetaminophen does not relieve your pain you may try ibuprofen. Mixture pills containing paracetamol, pseudoephedrine and chlorpheniramine can help ease the cough and spasms.

If you have phlegm, then, can use mucolytics that can help dissolve the phlegm and clear your respiratory pathways.

Vapu rubs when applying on your back and chest can help with breathing especially at night.

Aerosol-therapy and keep your room well humidified can help too.

If after all these measures, you won't get better or feel worse, or get higher temperature, should see your doctor as soon as possible.
Hope this is helpful for you. Wish fast recovery.
