What Causes Circular Red Patch On The Outer Side Of Calf?

I have noticed a circular patch of red sunburn looking skin on outside of right calf. It is about 4cms in diameter. I have been out bushwalking, but always wear long trousers. The patch is warmer to touch than paler skin along side the patch. I am 67 year old female with no other symptoms. I am not on any medications. I am very healthy & do a lot of exercise, long distance walking and bike riding.

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have circular red patch on the outer side of calf. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like urticaria or contact dermatitis , insect bite or varicose vein . I would suggest you to apply cold compresses on it twice a day , keep it clean and dry , wear loose cloths and take anti histamine like benadryl . If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like skin patch test , allergy test and physical examination . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics for local infection , immunosuppressants along with corticosteroid ointments .
