Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has had a very swollen foot for several months. The whole foot and toes are swollen very much, even part of his ankle. Just one foot. He went to a foot doctor who said it was not gout, maybe vasculitis, and gave him pills which did not help much. The doctor mentioned kidney on one side not possibly working but neither he nor the regular doctor has been able to heal the foot.
Chronic swelling in the foot may be because of accumulation of high protein content in the foot. There are certain reasons for this high protein content fluid in the foot, the most common amongst them is an intake of high amount of protein, increase the amount of sodium in the body and reduced kidney function to remove the proper amount of protein and sodium.
Therefore, it is better to consult nephrologist and have a proper diagnosis of both kidney function.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nirav Nimavat,
