What Causes Chronic Insomnia While On Ambien And C-pap?

Hi, Dr. Rynne. My name is Sheri. I am a heart transplant recipient as of 2012. I have had insomnia for years but it is progressively getting worst. My transplant knows. As of now I am on Ambien and a C-PAP. Tomorrow will be a week that I have been on the C-PAP. It gets to where I am exhausted, sit down, and wind up going to sleep for 2 hours. (only 2 hours!) Then I am up for the next 4 - 6 Hours. I am trying to go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time. I have no idea what to do..... Thank you for any help.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,

If the Ambien is not resulting in improvement then we can think of two options. One is to increase the dose of Ambien. If you are on 10 mg then the dose can be increased to 15 mg or 12.5 mg SR preparation. This should help in sleep.

Another option is to add drugs like Clonazepam to your prescription. This will help in improving the sleep.

You can visit your doctor for discussion regarding this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi,
