What Causes Chronic Cough?

My husband has been coughing for 8 weeks. The doctor told him he had a lung infection and put him on antibiotics. The cough persisted. Because he is on blood pressure medication, he was switched to a different type. He is stil coughing, but less. Tonight he has the feeling of mucus in his throat which he can t swallow and is also unable to blow his nose. In addition, he has indicated over the past few months his eyes are always watering. He is a Type 2 diabetic and just recently began insulin injection, once a day. He also has 8 stents from heart attacks,. Is there anything to worry about? His lung X-ray came back fine and tomorrow he gets his results wrt a pulmonary exam. I thought it was a free service. Sorry!!

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hello,

First, to the best of my knowledge, this response will not need you to pay. Now, as for your husband's condition, I would have really appreciated the details like the test reports- x ray reports, sputum reports, blood reports- and also the exact medications that had been prescribed, including the BP medicines. In the absence of the details the response gets restricted. You have mentioned that his chest x ray shows improvement. This seems to suggest that he is better on the given medications and seems to be improving. I therefore think that the medications should continue for now. You can wait for the reports and take the final judgement. Also since he is a diabetic healing may be delayed. Sugars will need to be very well controlled so that the antibiotics can work well. Else it would take much longer.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.l
