What Causes Chronic Cough And Excessive Mucus In The Throat?

I have had a nagging cough since last September. It is a tickly cough with thick saliva in the back of my throat. I have been to an ENT, had an MRI and chest xray and allergy testing. I also have a crusty nasal passage. The allergy testing revealed high sensitivity to environmental things such as grasses, molds, etc. so I have been taking sublingual allergy drops, which are not helping. I ve been taking them for about 2 months. Ironically, I had a sinus infection about a month ago, and the doctor (a different doctor than my ENT) put me on augmentin. I got well, and my cough completely cleared up, but I wasn t sure if it cleared up because the allergy drops were starting to work or because of the augmentin. After about another week, my cough came back. I do not feel like this is an allergy-related cough

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

As per my evaluation, there is need of preventive measures rather than ongoing cure as the cause is body response to allergy in form of mold, house dust or else.

My salient guidelines
- Wise use of triple layered medical mask to avoid exposure to dust, pollen
- Deep breathing exercises, YOGA
- Inhalation of vapors of boiled water with tincture Benzoin
- Avoid exposure to fumes of vehicle or else
- Avoid smoking (active as well as passive)
- Balanced nutritious diet to combat the infection
- Control of vital parameters of BP, blood sugar etc.
- Anti allergic, anti histamine medicines as and when required only.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
