What Causes Chronic Cough And Breathing Difficulty?

My husband has been sick with an upper respiratory infection for two weeks and is taking an antibiotic, a steroid and cough medicine. He has pretty much cough almost constantly the whole two weeks, coughing up phlegm and blowing nose. Now he has what looks like a long puss filled sack inside his right nostril that is attached way up inside his nose. It is pink and the very tip of it is white. He isn t having any pain with it but it is making it hard for him to breath due to the swelling on that side. Can you tell me what this is or if it s something we need to be concerned about?
