What Causes Chronic Cough After Laparoscopy?

I had a laparoscopy done on Monday. Nothing was found so nothing was removed. Since waking up from the procedure i keep coughing and having to clear my throat bringing up clear mucus. Normally in the morning i always have to get mucus out but this happens all day. Should I be concerned? I’m 28 and I do have asthma but that has been under control.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since you are having only dry cough without expectation, breathing difficulty etc, no need to worry for this dry cough.
It is mostly due to irritation caused by endotracheal tube.
This will definitely subside in 1-2 days time.
If you develop breathing difficulty, expectoration or continuous coughing, your should definitely consult your doctor and get done chest x ray.
At present, nothing should be done for this dry cough. It is normal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
