What Causes Chronic Constipation After A Spinal Cord Surgery?

I am 33 year old male had a decompression surgery of D4 to D6 (laminectomy followed by bone graft without fixation). My diagnosis was spinal TB with D5 compression fracture with cord compression (ASIA grade C). I am on anti TB 4FDC and on complete bed rest for last 2 month since surgery (1 more month left). Now my problem is severe constipation for 2 weeks before surgery. My bowel does not move without enema of soap water for every 2 to 3 days. How can I get rid of this problem?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You are living a sedentary lifestyle, so need to take high fiber diet or bulk forming agents like Benefiber and Metamucil. Drink plenty of water and prokinetic agent may useful.
Please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care
