What Causes Chronic Backache?

My husband is experiencing chronic back pain for which he takes at least 6 10MG Norco tablets a day, sometimes 5 of them all at once. He spoke with a neighbor who gave him some 10 MG morphine tablets to see if they will work. He has not taken norco and morphine at the same time as far as I know, but I am nervous. Hubby also takes three 600 mg gabapentin tablets and trazadone to help him sleep. Should I be nervous? Or is all ok here.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Etiology of long-term (chronic) backache has many parameters like low hemoglobin, general debility, hypoproteinemia, systemic disorders as diabetes, low calcium levels, vitamin deficiency, spondylosis, compression of spinal nerve roots, slipped disc, trauma, muscle sprains, muscle stretch, renal calculus, posture related issues, spine curvature issues, spinal tuberculosis, metastasis from primary at other site in the body, and others.

Ideal would be getting the cause of backache and treat it permanently rather than taking empirically tablets for pain relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
