What Causes Chronic Abdominal Pain?

Hello Doctor, I have been experiencing chronic abdominal pain for some time now and I have had a series of blood tests and cat scans as well as sonograms and they have not come up with any source for this pain. I have looked up IBS and ulcerative colitis and these symptoms are the same. Please advise. Kandi Shah

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

After going through your question, I can understand your concern.

As series of blood test and CAT scan are normal, possibility of Inflammatory Bowl Disease (IBD) like Ulcerative colitis or chrohn's disease is unlikely.

There is most likely possibility of Irritable bowl syndrome (IBS).
- It is a functional disorder.
- Trigger by changes in mood, anxiety, depression.
- Food habits : Oily, spicy food, insoluble fibers may also be a trigger.

* Changes in food habits : avoid spicy, oily food, have soluble fibers.
* Psychiatric counseling and behavioral modification therapy.
* Use of Medicine like Fluoxitin, amitryptilin may be of help.

You should consult Gastroenterologist for better opinion.

Hope this helps you, if so do vote as helpful.
