What Causes Choking Sensation In Throat After Eating?

I m currently on Day 6 of my tonsillectomy recovery. Today I had macaroni and cheese for lunch which has gotten stuck in my tonsil holes. When I looked in my mouth at noon it looked like I had 1 noodle stuck on one side and 2 stuck on the other side. It s about 7 hours later and they still haven t dislodged despite eating, drinking, gargling and swallowing as best I could. They ve gone deeper into the tonsil holes and impossible to get on my own. Will these dislodge on their own or should I visit my doctor to have them removed? Are there any risks if they take a few days to come loose? Is there anything else I can do to help them get out?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having choking sensation in throat after eating which could be due to granular pharyngitis. It could be due to formation of lump, gastroesophageal relfux disease and contraction of muscle sphincters. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles 2-3 times a day.

You should avoid heavy and spicy food specially at night and eat small and frequent meals. You should do betadine gargles as well. Consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like blood test , throat swab test , endoscopy and CT scan. Doctor may also examine with the help of fiber optics .

From diagnostic studies exact diagnosis can be made out. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics course, anti inflammatory medications or refer you to gastroenterologist . For now eat soft food or take liquid diet .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
