What Causes Choking Beneath The Sternum After Eating?

I swallowed a piece of bagel and cream cheese while coughing it went down my trachea and I never coughed it up. This was about 12 hours ago, I feel like I can feel it around the bottom of my sternum. I do not have any trouble breathing. I just want to know if I should worry or not.

Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I read your query and here is my answer.
As you said that you cough and its been 12 hours since you have eaten that thing and there is no shortness of breath, no cyanosis no dyspnea. Then all these means that it is not in your trachea and it has swallowed down to stomach. The pressure that you feel may be psychological like when u put something on your head for a while, and you feel it after when you remove it from the head. There is no need to worry about, just drink some water and relax yourself. You are all right.
Hope i answered your question. Feel free to ask if you need further assistance . Thanks.
