What Causes Chills And Leg Cramps?

My husband has been having sudden chills and leg cramps. He took some aspirin this afternoon and slept. When he awoke, his clothes were soaked. He felt better, had a decent dinner but now after a couple of hours he s having chills again and terrible leg cramps and cannot stop shaking. He took a couple more aspirin thinking this would help. He does not have a fever and is not vomitting.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I understand your concern.

Chills, leg cramps, with no fever followed by sweating.
This can be due to infections causing low grade or no fever with chills and sweating like urinary tract infection,tuberculosis,typhoid/autoimmune disease/certain medications.

I advise you to get his certain investigations done to rule out the above possibilties. It includes blood haemogram, blood culture,ESR,blood test for auto antibodies, urinanalysis,Xray chest.
Further management depends on diagnosis obtained from these tests.
You need to visit physician in this regard.

Most of the infectious disease have to be treated by antibiotic course of 7-10 days.
For chills, you can give tab acetaminophen twice for 5 days.
Maintain adequate hydration and healthy diet for general well being.Oral rehydration solution preferred.
Keep the room temperature higher by using heater.
