What Causes Chills And Body Tremors While Suffering From Congestive Heart Failure?

As a survivor of heart attack and double by-pass surgery myself, I m writing in behalf of a dear friend who has just been diagnosed with Congestive heart failure, and ended up in the hospital a second time when the Elliquis prescribed for blood thinner cause internal bleeding. One of the symptoms that continues to plague her is clamminess and chills. She has this and whole body jitters and shakiness more evenings than not. We ve told her doctors, but don t get much of an answer. Is this something that s symptomatic of the condition, something needing more attention, or more of an annoyance just to put up with? Obviously, CHF is a pretty scary diagnosis, and as we learn more, these questions will get sorted out, but right now, she needs to know whether she should seek further medical help for?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

The symptoms that you seem to be describing are night sweats/chills. It would be best for her to be seen for these symptoms. Chills cause trembling and jitters. They do not commonly occur with heart failure but different persons can present different symptoms. In some persons night sweats/ chills can signal an underlying infection that has not been detected. It can also rarely occur in more serious conditions.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
